I thought I’d make an addendum to Pippy’s quick tut on Line Weights.

Because, these days, not a lot of people seem to be expending much effort on their lineart outside of this making it cleanish. Mostly due to the rise of the Wacom Etch-a-sketch. Anyhoo…

Consider the circle on the left…


That’s just what it is. A circle. On it’s own in does nothing to inform us about the scene it’s been placed in. It’s little more than handy guide for the bucket fill tool. The circle on the right however, uses a varying line-weight create the illusion that it’s actually a sphere. To hint at a 3rd dimension the first example could only ever dream of, cry itself to sleep about, and eventually commit 2D suicide over. You poor beautiful but ugly circle.
